In memory of Barbara Morse, a beloved wife, mother, and esteemed artist within the New Hampshire art community, her husband Alan Morse has created this website and will donate all proceeds from the sales of Barbara’s artwork to various non-profit organizations that support the arts throughout New Hampshire. These include The New Hampshire Art Association and The Women’s Caucus for Art, New Hampshire.
Barbara’s profound belief in the transformative power of art education guided her own journey, and the monies raised by this website will serve as a tribute to her passion and commitment. Through these efforts, we seek to empower the next generation of artists to pursue their creative aspirations, ensuring Barbara’s legacy continues to inspire for years to come.
I render the image in sharp focus, but… the viewer invokes their personal connection.
By isolating a portion of a scene, an object, or a person; developing a mood, and avoiding elements of realism; I create my image in Sharp Focus. Light and texture is to be as much the subject as the objects themselves, while a fragmented view should provoke thoughts of the whole. The ordinary should become the unexpected when viewed from an unusual setting or perspective. Stimulating the viewer’s thought process to extend beyond the natural order of things should suggest a range of emotions from humor to hope, thus allowing the work to transform to the level of fine art.
Working in graphite and sometimes adding a hint of color to attract attention to an area enhancing the entire image, no matter the level of labor intensity, I find joy and satisfaction watching a piece come to life before me. As an artist, this is what I challenge myself with on every new piece of work.

About Barbara
Barbara Morse, a long-time New Hampshire resident, was originally a Connecticut native, receiving her formal art training at The Paier College of Art in New Haven. She began her artistic career as an illustrator, working for many top publishing houses and national publications, like Houghton-Mifflin and Yankee Magazine. She had a vision that her drawings could be more dynamic when created as works of fine art; this enabled her to pursue her passion for working primarily in graphite. She developed a unique and challenging style that she dubbed “In Sharp Focus.” Over time, her work became more refined… using acrylics to add hints of color in order to bring attention to a portion and thereby enhance the entire image.
As her work became established, she was extended membership in the Salmagundi Club in NYC, the New Hampshire Art Association, and the Copley Society in Boston where she has achieved the designation of Copley Artist. She was also a member of the Hollis Art Association, Two Villages Art Society, WREN, and the NH Business Committee for the Arts.
She has been represented by galleries throughout New England including the Granary on Martha’s Vineyard, the Whitney Galleries in Maine, and the Galleries at 30 Main in Meredith, New Hampshire. Her work continues to be exhibited at many of the major regional galleries and is included in many private collections in both the US and in Europe.

Original artworks, provided they are still unsold, are shipped unframed via insured UPS to maintain the integrity of the piece. If you’d like an original framed, it must either be picked up in person or special shipping arrangements can be made. In addition to the originals, we offer high-quality reproduction archival giclée prints. All prints can be picked up locally or will be shipped within the US via USPS, making it easy and affordable to bring Barbara’s artwork into your home. Please note that the shipping for original pieces will be charged at a flat rate that includes packaging and handling fees, as well as insurance and postal rates based on your location.
NHAA Barbara Morse Memorial Scholarship Fund
Proceeds from our website sales also support the Barbara Morse Memorial Scholarship, established by the New Hampshire Art Association, which honors the memory of artist Barbara Morse by supporting talented New Hampshire high school seniors who share her creative aspirations. This scholarship carries on Barbara’s legacy by encouraging young artists to pursue their passions and providing them with the resources to achieve their artistic goals.
